The landscapes that open to your eyes along the way will amaze you.

Kaymakli Underground City: During your trip you will visit the city of Kaymakli. Kaymakli is the largest underground city in Cappadocia, the oldest monument of civilization. It is said to have been built in Hittite times and only opened relatively recently – 1964. This mysterious city is a maze of tunnels and rooms carved deep into the earth in eight levels. Only 5 levels have been fully excavated by archaeologists. You may be surprised, but everything was intended for the residence of 15,000 people. Stables were on the first level, the church and living quarters on the second, and kitchens and a storeroom on the third. The current inhabitants of Kaymakli still use parts of the underground city as storage, stables and cellars.

Ortahisar Castle: Ortahisar Castle – The fortress towering over the town of Ortahisar is one of the town’s major tourist attractions. You will be amazed by this fortress, literally carved into the rock and dotted with caves. There are 10 floors in total. Ortahisar has been used since Roman times. If you climb to the top of the fortress you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view. The most impressive panorama of the Hallakder valley – the valley of the fabulous chimneys and the majestic snow-capped Erciyes volcano on the horizon.

Chavushin Village: Chavushin is the oldest settlement in Cappadocia, a rocky city. You may be surprised but in 1953 people lived in dwellings carved into the rock. Due to landslides and erosion, they had to abandon their homes. Old churches and monasteries carved into the rock are among the most interesting structures in the village. Built in the 5th century, the Church of St. John the Baptist is one of the most famous churches in Chavushin. There are ancient frescoes here where you can see the faces of Mary and Jesus. You will surely enjoy walking around the old buildings and imagining how people used to live here.
