Your eventful journey begins in Goreme . A comfortable bus will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Mount Nemrut. Your excursion lasts 3 days and 2 nights. On the first day you will reach the city of Kyakhta at the foot of Mount Nemrut, where you will have dinner and stay overnight. On the way to Mount Nemrut you will visit several memorable places where you will be offered tea and lunch. Take unforgettable photos.
On the second day you will hike to the top of Mount Nemrut. You will also see some of the sights on the way back to the hotel. After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to the town of Sanliurfa. Here you will check into your hotel and have lunch. After lunch, take a stroll through the city visiting the sights and the oriental bazaar. Then drive to Harran village. After visiting Harran and sightseeing, return to your hotel.
Here you will have dinner and stay overnight. On the third day after breakfast, return to Goreme. On the way you will visit the town of Birecik and its rare bird farm, have lunch here and take a walk in the Taurus Mountains. Afterward, take a short tea break and transfer to your hotel in Goreme.
Kayseri city. Kervansaray, Karataikhan. Pinarbasi: The first stop on your way is the ancient city of Kayseri at the northern foot of Mount Erciyes. Here you will visit the Kervansaray, Karataikhan, built by the Seljuks in the 13th century. The caravanserai served as a refuge for travelers traveling along the Great Silk Road with caravans full of goods. After visiting the caravanserai, drive to the small town of Pinarbasi. Here, in a cozy cafe, you can relax and treat yourself to traditional Turkish tea.
Tekir (lunch). Kahta city: Your next stop is Tekir Valley. Here, near the city of Kayseri, there is a ski resort on Mount Erciyes. erciyesis a former extinct volcano with an altitude of 3916 m. Here you will taste a delicious and hearty lunch consisting of Turkish cuisine. You will see the incredible beauty of Tekir Valley. You will be surprised to find snow on the northern slopes of this valley all year round. After a photo session with the Tekir Valley in the background, drive to the city of Kyakhta. Kyakhta is the closest city to Mount Nemrut. Mount Nemrut: Early in the morning, before dawn, drive to the foot of Mount Nemrut. You have to walk about 30 minutes to the top of the mountain. The height of Mount Nemrut is 2130 meters and is famous for the huge stone sculptures erected on it. These sculptures are the main sanctuary of the ancient kingdom of Commagene. In 62 AD King Antiochus I. from the Armenian dynasty Ervandidov built a tomb on the top of Mount Nemrut, which he surrounded with colossal statues – 8-9 meters high. In these statues you can see the Persian and Greek gods: Zeus, Apollo and Hercules, as well as the king himself and the figures of two huge lions and eagles. The heads of the statues have been removed and are now located around the perimeter of the tomb, the reasons for this are still unknown. All sculptures are in their original form and have never been restored.
You will be amazed by the 50 meter high and 150 meter wide mound at the base in the center of the tomb. It is made up of small stones. Under this mound is the coffin of King Antiochus I, but his remains have never been found. This unique historic building is under the protection of the UNESCO world organization. Here you can see the endless expanses of the mountains with the first rays of the sun. You will watch a beautiful sunrise among the stone giants. Arsemia. Roman Bridge Jendere.: Returning from Mount Nemrut, visit the ancient city of Arsemia – the capital of the Kingdom of Commagene. The kings used this city as their summer capital. You will see a stone obelisk depicting the handshake of King Antiochus I and the ancient Greek god Hercules. You have a divine view of the ancient city to capture in your photos. Next you will see the historic Cendere Bridge, which stretches at the narrowest part of the Kyakhta River. Built in AD 212 in the time of Septimius Severus, the bridge rests on two rocks and has two pillars at the entrance and exit. The old bridge is very well preserved, you can walk along it and take great photos.
Karacus Tumulus: Karakus Tumulus is another royal tomb, the mausoleum of the female half of the royal family. This tomb was built by the King of Commagene Mithridates II in honor of his mother Isias. The structure is a high hill (about 75 m), just like on Mount Nemrut, of artificial origin and monumental columns on the sides. Now there are only 3, before there were 8. The mausoleum got its name from the statue of an eagle on one of the pillars. On another column you can see a lion, on the third a bas-relief with a handshake. This place was also a place for religious rituals. You will be amazed at the size of the structures that ancient people could build without modern technology. How they managed to do that is still a mystery.
Sanliurfa: Sanliurfa is the holiest city in Turkey. The forefather of all Jews was born here, a symbol of righteousness for Christians – Abraham. On the way to the city, visit the largest dam in the Middle East – the Ataturk Dam, built in 1990. You will learn that the reservoir created by this dam is the third largest in all of Turkey. The ancient Roman city of Zeugma was previously located on the site of this reservoir. You will be amazed at the sight you see. After lunch at Sanlıurfa Hotel, go to Abraham’s Cave, which is believed to be the birthplace of this Prophet. Born here, he hid for more than seven years from King Nimrod, who ordered the killing of all newborn boys for fear that one of them would depose him from the throne. You will also visit the Sacred Carp Pool and learn the legend of its creation. You will be surprised by the abundance of carp in this pool.
Haran: Harran is one of the oldest cities in the world. The main attraction of Harran are the quaint beehive houses built entirely of adobe. Thanks to this construction material, it is cool inside even in sweltering heat. People lived in these houses until the 1980s. You will walk through this ancient city where Abraham spent the last years of his life. In the city you will also visit the oldest Islamic university and an 18th-century castle. You will immerse yourself in the centuries-old history of this place and feel its incredible energy.
Birecik: Birecik is an ancient city in western Sanliurfa province. In ancient Greek times it was called Birta, later – Macedonopolis. This city is known for the fact that the rarest bird, the bald irbis (Kul Ainak), lives on its territory. This is the only place in the world where you can find this bird. You have the opportunity to visit the Bald Ibis breeding farm and take unique pictures here.
Taurus Mountains: The Taurus Mountains is a mountain complex in southern Turkey. In addition to hiking and mountaineering, there are two ski areas.
