A beautiful coastline stretching between Lara Beach and the city of Antalya is also known as the Turquoise Coast. This is because the water is so clear and appears turquoise when the sun shines. Guaranteed sunshine for most of the year and some great beach resorts.
Beautiful Lara Beach overlooks a beautiful 10-kilometer stretch of golden sands. This Blue Flag beach is by far one of the most beautiful in the area, a magnet for locals and holidaymakers from all over the coast and one of the most popular options for a holiday in Turkey. With most of the hotels here being fabulous all-inclusive options with a plethora of amenities, we totally understand if you just want to soak up the sun and the wide range of entertainment available at your hotel. However, if you feel like exploring, we have put together some top tips for things to do around Lara Beach and Kundu. From waterfalls to walks and ancient sites to underwater cities, we’ll show you how to make the most of your Lara Beach vacation.
At the westernmost point of Lara Beach you will find the stunning Lower Duden Fall. Walking trails through a green, manicured park along the cliff offer breathtaking views of the water cascading over the cliffs into the sea. Located just north of Antalya city center (hop on a local Domus minibus to get there), Upper Duden Waterfall is set in a lovely, shady park full of birdsong, perfect for picnicking and walking. The falls are small but very scenic, cascading through the greenery into pools surmounted by trees. You can descend a spiral staircase behind the falls for a mesmerizing view through the curtain of water.
It’s an enchanting jumble of narrow streets lined with Ottoman-era houses that wind around a beautiful boat-filled harbour. This was once a major Roman port city and you can still see spectacular structures such as Hadrian’s Gate, built to honor the Roman Emperor’s visit in AD 130, and the 2nd-century Hidirlik Tower, a watchtower on a cliff with a fantastic view. The charming streets and squares are full of shops, cafes and bars and the pretty harbor is the starting point for numerous boat and sailing excursions.
Side, which is regularly offered by tour operators in the hotels, is an idyllic place for those interested in history and culture. Set on a beautiful peninsula with a mountainous backdrop, it is now a charming seaside town with notable Greco-Roman ruins. These include the impressive remains of the Temple of Athena overlooking the harbor and a huge Roman theater that once seated 15,000 people. The fascinating City Museum is housed in a restored Roman bath complex and contains finds from archaeological sites throughout Side.
Another popular day trip offered by our travel agency is one of our favorite tours. It combines a boat trip to Kekova Island, where you can marvel at the marvelous sunken city of Kekova through a glass-bottom boat, with a chance to explore the Roman theater and the fascinating rock-cut tombs of the Lycian necropolis at Myra. If you’re making this trip yourself and want to hire a car, try to get to Myra early: with a bit of luck, you’ll have this beautiful ancient site almost to yourself.
You may need to hire a car for the day or book a taxi to reach Cirali, which is not usually on a typical tour operator’s itineraries. This is a perfect excursion if you want to get away from the crowds and explore some of the most unspoilt corners of this beautiful stretch of coast. Cirali remains a sleepy little village and its beach is one of the last nesting sites of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle. From Cirali you can hike part of the famous Lycian Way or explore the ancient ruins of Olympos. At dusk (when the phenomenon is most visible), take the 30-minute hike up the mountainside to see the flickering of the chimera: an eerie natural phenomenon
The Antalya Museum is closed on Mondays but open on other days, and the impressive Hall of the Gods is home to 16 ancient Roman gods and goddesses, while another room displays sarcophagi recovered from the Perge tombs. The museum itself is about two kilometers west of the Kaleiçi district and is considered one of the best in the country.
