During this excursion you will see an uninhabited part of beautiful Cappadocia. Your exciting tour will start in the underground city of Mazy, which is located in the village of the same name Mazy and consists of several underground levels.
You will visit an unusual and breathtaking place in Cappadocia – the ancient castle of Ortahisar, carved into the rock. From the top of the castle you have a magnificent view of the city at the foot of the cliff, the valley and the snow-capped volcano.
You will visit one of the most beautiful villages in Cappadocia – Mustafapasha village, formerly known as Sinasos. This village was considered the Greek center in Turkey. You will see Greek villas, churches and monasteries built by wealthy Ottomans.
You will admire the magnificent frescoes and unique works of art in the Keshlik Monastery, which consists of two churches: the Archangels and Stephen. The monastery lies in the shade of an apple orchard with a sacred spring.
You will explore the ancient and only Roman city of Sobesos from the 4th century, which was discovered in 2002. You will see the Market Square, the Parliament Building, the Mosaic Basilica and much more.
You walk along the Soganly Valley with its interesting paths past churches and pigeon houses in the rocks. Until 2011, the village of Soganly was in the valley where people lived according to the old foundations, but then the village was closed by the authorities.

Cappadocia Hotels Transfer: Pick up from your hotel
A comfortable bus will pick you up from your hotel and set off on an interesting adventure. You will visit the underground city of Mazy, Ortahisar Castle and the village of Mustafapasha. Then drive to Keshlik Monastery, Sobesos Ancient City and Soganli Valley (hike). After the end of the excursion, you will reach your hotel with comfortable transportation.
Mazy Underground City: Your tour begins with a visit to the underground city of Mazy, carved into the rock in the village of the same name, Mazy. The city has several floors and even 30 years ago local families lived in some parts.
The size of the city is unknown, but its area is huge and there are many entrances. You will walk through the city’s unique caves and dark labyrinths, you will see defense systems, throne rooms, staircases – passageways, laundries, churches. There are no electric lights underground, and the path is lit by a portable, powerful lamp.
Ortahisar Castle: Next, drive to Ortahisar Castle . The Castle in the Rock overlooks the town of Ortahisar and is one of the town’s major tourist attractions. It opened to the public in 2013 after a major renovation.
You will climb the slope of the cliff, look into the premises and see a breathtaking panorama of the Hallakder valley from above – this is the valley of fabulous chimneys and the majestic snow-capped Erciyes volcano rising on the horizon.
Mustafapasha Village: Then drive to the most beautiful village of Cappadocia – Mustafapasha village formerly known as Sinasos. It is 6 km south of Urgup. In the last century it was the center of Cappadocia and many Greeks lived here until the 20th century.
Explore the opulent mansions built by the wealthy Ottomans from square blocks of tuff, churches and monasteries. Many buildings have preserved beautiful murals and graceful reliefs.
Lunch: With vivid impressions, refresh yourself with a hearty lunch and continue your tour of Cappadocia.
Keshlik Monastery: Then explore the ancient Keshlik Monastery, also known as the Archangel Monastery, located near Mustafapash. Keshlik Monastery was built in the 8th century and its premises were carved from volcanic tuff. It was used during the Byzantine era until the end of the Ottoman Empire in the 1920s.
You will see the monastic complex consisting of two churches: the Archangels and Stephen containing cells, refectories, wineries and a large number of very well preserved multicolored frescoes. You will also enjoy the lush apple orchard surrounding the monastery and refresh yourself near the sacred spring in the garden.
The ancient city of Sobesos: Next, the ancient city of Sobessos from the period 300-350 will be opened for you. This only ancient Roman city in Cappadocia was discovered by treasure hunters in 2002. Located in the village of Sahinefendi, it is quite far from the main attractions of Cappadocia on the way to the Soganli Valley.
You will see an amazing archaeological site: the Parliament building with an area of 400 square meters, consisting of three rooms with mosaics on the floor and ornaments on the walls, a basilica, a bath complex, agora (market square).
Soganly Valley: Then hike the interesting hiking trails of the Soganly Valley. Located about 36 km south of Mustafapash, the valley consists of two branches, one heading north and the other heading west.
You will see many amazing old churches and pigeon houses built into the rocks. There used to be a traditional Turkish village in Soganli where people lived as they have lived for centuries. Unfortunately, the village was closed by the authorities in 2011 due to erosion and the danger of living there. There are currently plans to convert the village into a nature reserve.
