City of Perge

The ancient city of Perge is located 18 kilometers from Antalya, not far from the modern city of Aksu. According to legend, it was founded by the Trojans after the war.

Some sources connect the founding of the city with the Hittites, who named the city Parga (15th century BC), and others – with the migration of sea peoples from the Aegean islands to the Mediterranean coast in the 12th century. B.C.

The first thing you will encounter along the way is an amphitheater for 15,000 spectators, built in the 1st millennium BC. The 25 meter high stage is decorated with reliefs and friezes.

Next to the theater you will see a stadium for 12,000 people. Its rows are reinforced with arches along the perimeter. Some of the arches were the entrance passages to the stadium, the others were shops. In some places there are even inscriptions about shopkeepers and goods.

The 12 m high city wall has been well preserved ever since. The gate through which you enter the city is called the Roman Gate. Behind them, the Hellenistic Gates appear in front of you. This gate is the most important gate to the city (3rd century AD). Before that, there were statues of gods, emperors and founders of the city.

On the left side of the Hellenistic gate is the bathhouse (2nd century AD), the largest in Pamphylia. Basically, it was decorated with marble, decorated with sculptures and reliefs. You can see the well-preserved marble and pebble floors, as well as the remaining structures of the drainage system.

On the right side of the Hellenistic Gate you can see the Agora (2nd century AD). For the Romans they served as the social, cultural and political center of the city. Agoras were built with many pillars, and shopping arcades lined the edges. The floors of the agoras and shops were covered with mosaics with geometric designs. In the middle of the agora you can see the ruins of a temple.

Behind the Hellenistic gates stretches the 20 m wide Arkadian Avenue. There are pillars on either side, between which there was once a water channel. There were also trading counters. You can see the mosaic floors that have survived to this day.

Aspendos

Then Drive to Aspendos. The city was founded by colonists from Argos.

Aspendos is situated on two hills. One of them once had an acropolis (a fortress surrounded by a fortress wall), an agora, a basilica (meeting place), a mausoleum and a soviet chamber. You will see the ruins of all these buildings.

This city has a delightful theater that is second to none. Music festivals are held here regularly.

The Aspendos Theater with a capacity of 15,000 spectators has survived to this day in a very decent condition. This was due to the fact that the building was reserved for a caravanserai during the Seljuk period. If you are lucky enough to be here during the opera and ballet festival, try to attend the performance. You will be enchanted by the voices of the opera singers in Aspendos, a memory that will leave a diamond in your soul.

Lunch

After such an active walk, you are invited to relax over a hearty lunch. You will taste grilled fish or chicken with a vegetable salad prepared with love by local chefs.

Side

In the ancient city of Side you have a wonderful opportunity to visit one of the two most beautiful waterfalls, Manavgat or Kurshunlu.

Manavgat is a man-made waterfall of amazing sizes. A wide jet of water falls from a low height. It is located near the town of Side. There are special viewing platforms near the waterfall, from which you can take beautiful pictures against the background of a turquoise stream.

The Kursunlu Waterfall is located on one of the banks of the Aksu Mountain River, surrounded by centuries-old pine trees. The area is rich in picturesque natural landscapes.

On the territory there is a beautiful park consisting of trees intertwining with crowns high in the sky, creating the feeling of a huge green lattice. As you walk through the park, you will see streams of water falling straight into the Emerald Lake from a great height.

After the walk, only pleasant memories and emotions remain in your memory. At the end of the excursion, a comfortable bus will take you to your hotel around 6:00 p.m.
