This is truly a masterpiece of architecture where grace, monumentality and grandeur are fused into one. Construction began in 1609 and lasted 7 years. Young Sultan Ahmed I, believing that he angered Allah, the poet decided to build a mosque.

Funds for this were taken from the Sultan’s personal treasury. You will see that the distinctive feature of the mosque is the presence of 6 minarets. The style of the Blue Mosque is a combination of Byzantine and Ottoman styles. Marble and stone were used for the construction. Since this is a working mosque, you can truly immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of this magnificent structure.

Hippodrome

Enjoy a stroll around the Hippodrome or Sultanahmet Square. Horse races were held here during the Constantinople period, hence the two names. It was a real race track with a jogging track and an amphitheater. The square has been decorated with various statues, some of which are still preserved and which you can admire. Time passed and the area was constantly changing. Today this place is used for celebrations and leisurely strolls.

German Fountain

You will be amazed by the beauty of one of the curious sights significant to the history of Istanbul – the German Fountain. This is a gift from Germany to the Ottoman Empire in honor of the arrival of Emperor Welhelm II in Istanbul. In honor of the fact that Turkey and Germany formed an alliance. The structures for the fountain were created in Germany, then shipped to Istanbul and assembled on site.

The fountain was opened on January 27, 1901, on the birthday of Chancellor Welhelm II. Despite the fact that its architecture differs from the rest of the decoration of Sultanahmet Square, where it is located, the fountain fits perfectly and looks very harmonious. The magnificent building with an octagonal base and columns has no walls and is therefore very light and airy. You will definitely enjoy this wonderful monument.

You will visit the Treasury where all the Sultan’s jewels were kept and the Palace Mosque where the Sultans themselves and their wives used to pray.
